Q. Can I apply if I just received my PhD degree?
A. No, the Fellowship award is targeted primarily to mid-career (at Associate Professor or above) and junior faculty, not post-doctorate fellow. Project award is targeted to leading senior investigator in the proposed research field.

Q. Does the recommendation letter from the US institution need to be in place at the time of the application?

A. While it is not absolutely required, it is recommended as it enables the reviewers to see the level of support from the US institution. However, proper documentation must be submitted with the application to show that any needed approvals are pending.

Q. How many years is a grant funded?
A. All grants and awards are funded for one year. However, an extended period of Non-Cost Extension (NCE) may be allowed. No extra funding will be provided by the Foundation.

Q. I worked in US for a long time and returned to China. Am I qualified to apply?
A. Yes.

Q. Does the recommendation letter need an official seal from the home institution?
A. No, as long as the letter has been signed by the leadership.

Q. Does the CV of the US mentor need to be fully translated to Chinese?
A. It is preferred but not required.

Q. Is there an age limit to apply?
A. No, but successful applicants are typically under 45 years of age.

Q. Is TOEFL or IELTS needed?
A. No.
